Heya, this is Melissa from NZ. I'm finally heading off on the OE I've wanted to do forever and really excited about it! Although I'll miss all my friends and family back home in NZ heaps I'm looking forward to catching up with old friends and making new ones on my tavels. So use this to keep track of me as I trot around the globe so I don't have to send massive emails this time. Keep in touch - kiwigirlnextdoor@yahoo.co.nz

July in London

In between watching the start of the first leg of the Tour De France, travelling to Northern Italy to see the Artic Monkeys, going to Amsterdam for Paul's birthday and showing Kerry and Andrew the wonderful sights of London I also managed to cram in some other fun stuff : )

By the same series that saw me watching Swan Lake for free at the end of May in Trafalgar Square with Nelsons Column as the backdrop, at the start of July I went to Potters Field Park and watched a free screening of Tosca (with subtitles) in the rain with the Tower Bridge in the background - it was a pretty surreal experience! Pretty cool place to be after the sun sets too, really lovely view down the Thames, saw Tower Bridge raised to let a boat through and then wandered across it to take the tube home.

Had a great time checking out Hyde Park for the Tour De France and was pretty impressed with Speakers Corner, great that people have a place to express their views, no matter how much they differ from mine. Have matured a bit since my socio-eco-femi-nazi days of high school so didnt particpate in the debates but had to bite my tongue a bit (might join in next time) remember "A different point of view is simply a view from a place that you're not" - see why I want to work for HSBC!

Juliette was heading back to Paris (has been awesome to hang out with you in London babe!) early July so we caught up one night after work and spent the evening in Camden chatting in Japanese with people staring at us while we enjoyed 2 pound Chinese market food for dinner before checking out some live Acoustic music. Love hanging out with Juliette - we always end of doing such awesome random stuff and having a great time, will miss you babe!

Got free tickets (yay for signing up for random emails) to a filming of the Album Chart Show at Koko one Monday night so went along with Sara and Phil. Shame we had to spend 4.5 hours waiting outside in the rain while they restored power to the club (it got struck by lightening) which meant Kings of Leon (the main band we went to see) werent performing but we still got to see Rufus Wainwright, Fergie and The Enemy perform so a pretty crazy way to spend a Monday!

To finish off the month, we bought Sara's stepsister and her friend back with us from Rolo as they wanted to explore London for a week or so and we took them to some of our favourite dance spots - Roxy and Slug : P Caught up with Andrew for dinner at Misato, Anna for dinner at Misato (I hardly ever eat out at restaurants but when I do Im going to my favourite Japanese one in Chinatown!), went to see Die Hard with Brady and had lunch with Robert at Leon, gotta love that place, If you're ever in London you HAVE to eat there! My favourite is Roasted Sweet Potato Falafal with basmati rice that they serve at lunchtimes - yummy! A pretty good July all round : )
