Heya, this is Melissa from NZ. I'm finally heading off on the OE I've wanted to do forever and really excited about it! Although I'll miss all my friends and family back home in NZ heaps I'm looking forward to catching up with old friends and making new ones on my tavels. So use this to keep track of me as I trot around the globe so I don't have to send massive emails this time. Keep in touch - kiwigirlnextdoor@yahoo.co.nz

Winter Update

Hi all from the depths of the world where winter (is hopefully) winding up and it's starting to get a little warmer. Its the start of September which means that I left my life in London a year ago and I've been back in Wellington for 9 months now. I'm not sure how much I've actually achieved (I mean by comparison I could have had a baby in that time!) but I'm getting into the swing of things here - definitely looking forward to summer though!!

In the last couple of months since I posted anything up here things have been going pretty well. I've gotten quite heavily involved with the Social Club at work (does that surprise anyone?) and in early July we celebrated our 5th birthday so that was a lot on fun (and a great chance to recycle my ball gown), had mates over for dinner to celebrate Claire's birthday on the 15th and on the 20th we farewelled another cousin to London (will be cool to hang out with both of them at the end of the month).

August was pretty fun - check out http://www.new.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2021708&l=ce172&id=220000480aid=2021708&l=ce172&id=220000480aid=2021708&l=ce172&id=220000480. Highlights were a big night out with the flatties in town on the 1st as Tim is leaving to move to Masterton mid Sep and Caroline was going on a huge holiday so we went out in style! Got pretty sick in the middle of the month with my evil athsma being allergic to the cold weather so was forever thankful for the Olympics and got to watch heaps of the swimming finals. Later on in the month I went to see the Royal New Zealand Ballet put on Romeo and Juliet which was absolutely amazing and Mikey was back for a ski week so had a night at DTL with him before he headed up there and again when he got back which coincided with Gemma and Wellum being back from Napier so good times! The month ended up with another Social Club function with our Office Olympics - our country won most popular : )

Am keeping pretty busy week-to-week between going to the gym most mornings (for either boxing class or to do weights), indoor soccer, Ceroc (have even managed to convince a few friends to come along with me) on a Wednesday, learning Spanish and teaching Japanese at lunchtimes at work so really enjoying the pace of life - even went to a small community production of Taming of the Shrew last night : ) The next two weeks will be pretty busy as Ive been at a HR sustainability conference (where I made the finals for best recycled outfit with my skirt-o-ties) for the past three days and am running three days of training next week and still want to catch up with people before I go.

For those of you who don't know, in a couple of weeks I'm heading off on a mini world trip (25,000 miles in 23 days!) and will visit friends in Tokyo, Munich, London, Chicago and San Fran. The main reason for going is for Michaela's wedding in Rogers City, MI on the 4th of Oct but when you're up in the Northern Hemisphere you might as well do as much as you can right! So keep an eye on this blog, hopefully it will be a little more exciting over the next month or so ; )
